The World Wide Web... We needed a name for an immense library that doesn't take any space in your room, a way to connect people a hundred thousand miles apart in a few seconds' time or faster, a place where everyone can speak their mind and hear what others think, an infinite world that  solves your work and entertains you - we called it 'Internet'.

Making a Top 1000 most useful/fun/entertaining websites would be extremely difficult (providing  that it is possible). You got this far, so it would be safe to assume you already know about Google and Yahoo - you probably even know Hi5 or Neopets - so I won't list any of the very well-known websites. Instead, you will find lesser known links, pages like mine - unknown to the world (with the slight difference that those are interesting) or a bit more popular, but worth visiting. Writing a long description would beat the purpose - nobody will read it anyway - so I will limit their presentation to a couple of lines.

Website type

Description

Examples

Affiliates Websites I've exchanged links with. Granada Hotel Site - A useful tool when planning a trip to Granada, Spain.
At Work and Bored - Things to do when you're bored. A fun site with everything from jokes to a 'panic' fake charts page to impress your boss.
Media Useful resources for music, movies, TV.

A-Z lyrics - Is this me or modern artists aren't giving their best when it comes to understandable lyrics? Instead of listening the song over and over to get the message, go there and look - you will probably find the lyrics.

MP3s Hits - Don't try to find a free downloadable music website on google - you'll get lost on the way. This is the best I could find (lots of mp3s & albums, no viruses, no need for money). You're supposed to delete the MP3s in 24 hours.

Internet Movie DataBase - Everything you need to know about any movie and a lot more (actors, directors, plots, news). Now 'that guy in last week's movie' will finally get a name.

TV.com - The television IMDb - read all about your favourite TV shows/series, from plots to reviews and related shows. Register for free and you also have access to the large number of forums.

Fun These websites won't make you smarter, but they'll sure make you laugh. The Cynic's Sanctuary - 'A cynic is one who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing', Oscar Wilde says. The rest of the world usually says 'cynic' as an offense - with the exception of this website - a modern cynic's headquarters.

JibJab - I never could figure out how everyone hates Bush, but he was still re-elected. Unless you're the one person who admires him, you can admire these amusing flash cards.

Italians vs. Europeans - You think Italians are like the rest of the Europeans? Naah. It works great for Romanians, too. Have a look - it's worth waiting for it to load.

Electronics Everything from using computers to picking cell phones. Draac - We all want a minimum of web design skills. Draac offers detailed html/css guides, color charts and everything a regular webmaster needs.

Turbo Upload - Have you ever tried sending a file by mail and messenger and it just wouldn't work? Now you can upload any type of file up to 70 MB and give your friends the link. Both uploading and downloading are free and don't require membership or special software.

GSM Arena - Picking a mobile phone is tricky. Now, you have a list of a large number of cell phones and their features. It might not be 100% complete, but it did helped me find a great cell phone.

Education You'll never feel guilty for not paying attention in class again...  How Stuff Works - Simple explanations of a complicated device, or detailed analyzing of a simple phenomenon. You are a few clicks away from finding out how stuff works.

Science Magazine - Are we alone in the Universe? How are memories stored? Find out what we know and what we don't with the 125 big questions put together by the magazine on its 125th anniversary.

Elibron Quotations - Philosophy is easier to find in the world than good advice, but you still have reasons to agree, disagree and giggle when you read the quotes of more-or-less famous people.

The Harry Potter Guide - This is the unofficial guide of the young wizard that charmed the entire planet and his wizard world. Be sure not to spam if you post in the forum!

Teenagers The many websites trying to make teenage years easier... Teen Growth - A site dedicated equally to boys and girls about health, school, friends, family and emotions. You can also submit your questions, but I wouldn't take the time.

Gurl.com - Made for teenage girls, it covers issues from body image to friends, but also quizzes, games, comics and horoscope. It's my personal favorite - the perfect balance between information and entertainment.

Elle Girl - The Elle magazine has a younger sister... and this is 'her' website. Good for wasting time, equipped with quizzes and message boards, it also has enough info to be worth a visit.

Paula's Choice - It's the last one, I promise! *chuckles* Alright, this is an A-Z beauty encyclopedia wannabe. A friend said it also has a great newsletter, but it would get lost in my inbox anyway so I didn't subscribe.

In case you think this isn't enough to keep you busy 50 years or you have a link better than many of those (which wouldn't be such a record) contact me (through my blog, guestbook or feedback forms).
